Propriana, Corsica.......

We went to Propriano in Corsica twice while we were staying at the bergerie at the Domaine de Murtali.... it is a nice simple place to visit... no large complex hotels in sight! But lots of boats........

We can recommend 2  restaurants there
Terra Cotta which is rated #1 by TripAdvisor.

which has excellent innovative food..... and a great set menu..

The second restaurant, Le Cabanon, where we had a wonderful table overlooking the port..

was also good and definitely worth a visit, particularly if the Terra Cotta is fully booked... which happened to us!  It is almost next door!

And the fish, when it arrived, looked so good we forgot to take a photo.

We can also recommend the No Stress Cafe...... we went there after meals to have a coffee  and to check our email! They have good WiFi service!

We also found a few nice places to shop!

This old fashioned store we found very appealing and it had a great choice of housewares...

Another store, Tempi Fa, was recommended by the owner of the Domaine de Murtali...
It has a lot of typical Corsican fare....

And a Bar a Vin!  Had we known in time we would have eaten here.........

We also found a very nice market stand to pick up veg etc... and they had a great selection of local wines!

It is located opposite the main Post Office.

We also went to see the Aguilles de Bavella.... just inland from Propriano.
Unfortunately just as we arrived we had a lightening storm... very dramatic!

Prehistoric Corsica.....

The area we were staying in has had inhabitants for quite some time........ about 6000 +years!!
The closest area, the Plateau de Cauria, was just over the hill from our bergerie....about 2kms as the crow flies, but in order to get there by car it was 37kms away!
This was fascinating!  We were able to meander around the site....said to be 300m from the parking lot, but more like a km! We could see why we had to park in that particular area, once we were on the next part of the road, which did continue on, in a very, very rutted state...

Then the circular walk around was about a km...

First one saw the Stantari standing stones.....      which are fabulous

Then the  Renaju site of 40 menihirs....

Then the Fontanacia Dolmen....
and our bergerie was just behind those rocky hills!
Looking the other way was an alpine type of view... Corsica is an island of contrasts!

Another day we went to Filitosa, about 1.5 hours away....

Again this was also fascinating.... but more commercial than the other site.  We were almost alone for the first site and it was free to just wander around. Filitosa , described in this Corsica blog link, is still privately owned and was quite expensive to enter, not kept up too well and had lots of visitors. Probably because it is closer to Ajacchio. It also had piped music ... which was very annoying!

This looked rather like the grotto at the Domaine de Murtoli, now their dining room...

This is the dining room at the Domaine!!

And there was some evidence of past inhabitants!
